We extend our winning run to seven in all competitions with a 3-1 victory over Litherland REMYCA. Goals from Rob Worrall, Adam Dale and of course, Lewis Byrne ensured we came away with three points.
This win takes us to the top of the league, as we overtake former league leaders, Ramsbottom United.
It was a positive beginning to proceedings for us, Adam Dale forcing a great stop out of the Remy goalkeeper from close range. Adam was once again involved in our opening goal, holding up the ball up before finding a genius lofted ball to Rob Worrall left the Remy keeper without a hope of keeping it out.
Immediately after, it was two. Adam Dale latching onto a ball played over the top of the Litherland backline, drawing out the goalkeeper allowing him just to nod the bouncing ball past the stranded goalkeeper to double our lead with less than half an hour on the clock.
Although, it was not all smooth sailing for our boys in the first half, Litherland REMCYA pulled one back just before the end of the half.
We knew that Remy would come out at us in the second half due to them halving the deficit towards the conclusion of the first. Their best chance came when their forward was able to turn in the box, shooting across our goalkeeper Morgan Bacon who was able to stretch out and make a phenomenal save to keep us ahead.
We went on to add a third goal to our tally for the game, Lewis Byrne popping up with yet another goal. He carried the ball forward from the right hand side and finishing from a very tight angle, ensuring victory on the road and our place at the top of the NWCFL Premier Division.
Manager, Carl Taylor told us “The fight and spirit from our lads was incredible tonight and credit to them travelling to Liverpool on a cold Wednesday night in December”. He followed this up by saying “To put in a performance like that is testament to the lads and the togetherness we have in this group is something else.”
We turn our attention to the cup next time out in a home fixture against Euxton Villa.
