A very wet start for the 3s bolstered by other call offs to have a squad of 13 for the trip to Dunfermline.
The game started with the 3s dominating the early play. If there was a stat tracker the 3s would've lead in almost every stat. Keeping Carnegie pinned for the most part with a few breaks which came to nothing.
We eventually took the lead from a penalty corner rebound, Gardner with the flick which was saved by the "diving" keeper only for him to push the ball straight to Charles who flicked it over the keeper into the inside of the side netting 1-0. Second goal followed shortly after in the first quarter with young Greg having a slapped shot in the D which saw the Carnegie defender turn it into his own net. the quarter ended with Arthur and Drummond playing simple keep ball at the back with no pressure from Carnegie.
Second quarter saw the match intensity step up a little with the opposition putting more pressure on the 3s and getting overloads high on the base line. This lead to them winning a penalty corner which was flicked past keeper Mitchell, more experience keeper probably saves it. This continued with the Carnegie comeback complete when a second penalty corner lead to a penalty stroke after ricocheting around the D. Mitchell again facing his first flick as a keeper was beaten as the ball came off the inside of the post and rebounded into his side. 2-2 at the break.
Things didn't get any better for the 3s after the half with Carnegie pushing and creating the same overloads a couple quick goals in the 3rd quarter saw the 3s 4-2 down and starting to chase the game.
With us chasing the game and forcing the ball Carnegie were getting joy on easy turnovers and were peppering the 3s goal with Mitchell making some important saves to extend any hope we had in the game. Was not enough as Carnegie got the 5th, this didn't stop the 3s from pushing on but the harder we pushed the more they got joy on the counter.
Overall was an even game with the weather playing in parts by making any mistakes that much worse. Few weeks to regroup and hopefully see more of the squad return.
