Hailsham Mixed made the very familiar journey to Blatchington Mill, to start their England Mixed Championship campaign, drawing against Brighton for the first round.
With a full squad of players up for the task, the game started well, despite our keeper Ryan trying to knock one of our centre backs out before we’d even started! We had some lovely play and pushed Brighton back into their own half well. One of these attacks led to a goal from David Antonia, who’s pace down the right hand side caused all sorts of problems. The goals kept coming with Kirk Manning finding the backboard with a full stretch slide from a short corner deflection.
Half time 2-0.
In the second half we continued to pile on the pressure, and soak up any attacks from Brighton on the break, with our defence and Ryan making some lovely block tackles and saves. Another goal was soon to follow, with Sophie Cable stepping up for a short corner, giving her two goals in two games this weekend! Not to be outdone in a bid to stay top male goal scorer in the battle with David, Josh Smith-Jones also found the back of the net.
A great game by all, redeeming ourselves nicely compared to last years efforts. Onwards to the next round keeping our place in the tier 1 section of the cup 🏑💙💪🏼
