Blessed with a full side and beautiful weather, Mids 2s kicked off the season against Bridgwater 4s at home.
With a team of new and older players playing together for the first time, starting well was going to be important. Unfortunately, Mids conceded an early goal, but thankfully with the benefit of experienced heads and talented juniors, we quickly found our footing in the game.
Solid passing, tackling and well-structured build-up play placed Bridgwater under pressure, culminating in an equaliser in the 28th minute following some excellent build-up play down the right side. From this point on, Mids were the better side.
Coming out after half time and with the benefit of plenty of subs, Mids increased the pace and intensity, creating several chances, which we unfortunately were unable to take. With the game stretching, both sides had opportunities going forward, but thanks to some excellent defence from the Mids defensive unit, these were quickly thwarted, without Bridgwater getting a single shot on goal!
Credit needs to go to the whole team with everyone contributing to a fine performance today. With more time playing together, I am expecting great things from the team this season.
