A wonderful start to the season in the form of this year’s Brian Ware Day at NPL Hockey club! Bathed in glorious early September sunshine at St Mary’s University astroturf, the day saw several generations of players, their families, Life presidents, umpires and newcomers come together to participate in a fun filled afternoon of hockey. Four adult teams went head-to-head in an intra-club tournament to compete for the prized ‘Superbowl’ trophy and establish bragging rights for another year, whilst a hotly contested family match took place next door to inspire the younger players. ‘Lucy’s Pride’ emerged victors amongst the adults in a competitive grand final, retaining the golden glittered ball – a true addition to anyone’s mantlepiece! Colin Cochrane, a Life President and Brian Ware fund trustee, rounded off the afternoon’s events with the prize giving and a few words ahead of the new season. To reward everyone’s efforts and refuel those tired legs, freshly baked pizzas prepared by Gordon were served at the Pavilion – a first for the club and warmly welcomed by all present. Good luck to all teams this season, and a special warm welcome to all of our new members!
