Three wins seal faultless fortnight for men

All three OBW's men's sides won on Saturday for the second weekend in a row to solidify strong form across the club.

Away at Twyford House for what was expected to be one of the tougher games of the season for the men's 1st XI, losing the toss didn't phase them as they went on to win by 47 runs.

In the B&D Fourth Division the 2nd XI chased down 177 to win versus Blagdon with 3.5 overs to spare, while the 3rd XI thrashed Shirehampton 2nd XI away from home, winning by 101 runs.

Back at Twyford House, having been put in to bat the top three each got starts but failed to move past the teens, before.a fantastic partnership between Connor Crane (sponsored by We Dig Landscaping) and Ben Cunliffe (sponsored by Mezze Restaurant), saw OBW's move from 57-3, to 201-4.

With Twyford now under pressure Connor was run out just 10 short of his first ton of the season, sparking a mini collapse as Ben and Jino Jojo (sponsored by Orca Electrical) were both also out before another run was scored.

A quick fire 34 from overseas Fletcher May (sponsored by Travis Perkins) got OBWs up to 257/7 off our 50 overs, meaning Twyford would have to bat at a run rate of more than 5 runs per over to win.

Thankfully for OBWs that proved too much, with regular breakthroughs meaning only Twyford's captain Richard Trotman surpassed 50, reaching 62 before being bowled by Ben Cunliffe (sponsored by Mezze Restaurant), as the hosts were bowled out for 210.

At Fortress Failand the 2nd XI also lost the toss and were made to field, but some tidy bowling restricted the visitors to 176/8 off their 40 overs, no one making it to 50.

For OBWs both Ben Harris (sponsored by The Angel) and Sajan Rana made it into the 30s, but the stand out performance came from Lloyd Stait who secured his second half century of the season, finishing not out on 59 off 45 balls in a successful chase, batting at five.

Last but not least, the 3XI away at Shirehampton did even better than last week when they won by 100 runs, beating this weekends opponents by 101 runs having lost the toss and been put in to bat.

Opener Dom Buxton showed his class making 89 and looking imperious before pulling a short ball straight to square leg, while a quick fire 45 from Greg Walters batting at three and strong contributions from Edgar Mottershead Davies and James Tagg took the game away from the hosts.

Shirehampton made just 133 in reply as all six OBWs bowlers took wickets, spinner Jack Harvey proving the stand out taking three for 29 off seven overs.

The results mean the 1st XI now sit second in WEPL Bristol & North Somerset despite having played a game less than every other team bar Bedminster, while the 2nd XI sit third in B&D Division Four, only three points behind leaders Long Ashton.

Having now won two and lost three, the 3rd XI move up to fifth in B&D Division Seven West.

The ladies did not play this weekend, while amongst the youth of the club the U9's took part in a cricket festival on Sunday.
