Match Report
Our ladies were off to Kettering this week! Considering the heat of the week before, we were prepared to battle in the heat again, with temperatures still above 20 degrees. After a careless decision to disclose the fact that her socks were washed and dried with a hairdryer this morning, Grace managed to earn herself DoD before even stepping foot on the pitch.
Anyway, back to the hockey. We started very well after a fantastic warmup led by Naomi. It wasn’t long until Leights had put one away very nicely for us, closely followed by an epic strike from Dorrie. By half time we were 2-0 up and feeling very strong. A quick team talk with some orange slices to keep us going led us into the second half. We had to keep our focus.
The second half did not start as well as the first though unfortunately. A few minutes in and we had somehow let Kettering slip between us in the D and score. 2-1. But our girls weren’t going to let that shake us. We kept our attack on, and we found ourselves in their D and Liv secured a goal in the side netting. The scenes were unreal! It was hot and we were getting tired, but with consistent subbing and sensible passes and communication, we put another goal behind us when Grace battled through the D and got the ball in the back of the net.
A 4-1 victory! What a start to the season. Special mention to our player of the match Hannah for an excellent game playing centre back - not usually her position! So well deserved.
This was my first official game playing for St Ives and I couldn’t be more chuffed to be sharing the pitch with these lovely ladies. Very proud of you all, and bring on next week!
Grace
