Mens 5 vs City Of Peterborough 8

Mens 5 vs City Of Peterborough 8

St Ives travelled to City of Peterborough for a nice early 10am push back in the sun to kick off their season and came away with a well deserved draw.

Peterborough started on the front foot and put us under pressure but the resoute defence of St Ives stood firm and kept Peterborough at bay, a green card for Captain Adam Renwick could have given the opposition the chance they needed to break the deadlock but the back line stood firm and refused to give up, the deadlock was finally broken when a City aerial into the D was met by an attacker with the onrushing keeper Jamie Duncan unlucky that the player managed to soften the ball enough that it went through his open pad and trickled over the line.

With half time encouragement St Ives went into the 2nd half with confidence knowing this game still was open and there to take, again City pressure came but Ives kept their cool in the sun and defended resolutely until a well run attack finally gave Richard Kellett the chance he needed to slot over the oncoming keeper and give Ives the goal they deserved

A draw was the fair result in the end with lves walking off the pitch with their heads held high and knowing that each player gave their all and that’s all you can ask for.

A mention for our debutants Mike who played his first game and Ryan & lsaac who stepped up from the juniors into their first senior games. Well done all.
