Surrey U14 Plate Final
Tadworth 159/3 (100)
AJ Academy 141/4 (100)
Tadworth win by 18 runs
A nervous but excited Tadworth U14 team arrived at Valley End CC for a tense end-of- season finals day. After winning the toss, Tadworth decided to bat first and try and to put a defendable score on the board.
Openers Carvill and Buckley got the innings off to a steady start, putting on 20 for the first wicket at a run a ball. When the first wicket fell Stockhausen came in, and after a cautious first few balls quickly switched into fifth gear to put Tadworth firmly on the front foot. He made full use of the 20 balls allowed before retirement to score 36, including seven boundaries. Harrison and Anthony continued the momentum with a brisk 50 run partnership which took Tadworth to an impressive final score of 159.
Nothing was taken for granted in the break, especially on the fastest outfield seen this season.
AJ Academy started the reply well, scoring quickly and keeping wickets in hand.
Eventually, though, wickets started to come, from Ali, Stockhausen and Harrison, and Tadworth kept their nerve with some tight middle innings bowling from Anthony and Harrison to squeeze AJ Academy out of the game.
Joyous scenes followed as the final ball of the innings from Harrison left Tadworth victorious by 18 runs.
All then returned to TCC for a well-earned celebration pizza and drink and to reflect on an excellent double-winning season for the under-14s.
