Vacancy: Ladies 1st XI/Performance Squad Coach

We are looking for a motivated and experienced coach for the 2024/25 season and beyond for our Ladies 1st XI and Performance Squad. 

Ladies 1st XI coach (National League: England Hockey Women’s Conference - West)

Performance Squad – made up of the Ladies 1s plus junior players from 2s & 3s who aspire to play 1s in the future. (Ladies 2s – South Central Prem 2. Ladies 3s – Hampshire Div 1). 

Our top two ladies teams sit two leagues apart, offering an exciting pool of talented players. The Ladies 1st XI squad train twice a week, and the performance squad joins the 1st XI for their second session of the week. We are at an exciting time in our club development, having appointed new roles to develop club wide strategies and improve our player recruitment opportunities, as well as a brand new club house development which is under way. This is a brilliant opportunity to help shape the future of Trojans Hockey Club. 


About Trojans HC

Trojans HC is the most successful club on the South Coast and boasts the highest Ladies 1st XI in Hampshire playing at National League level. In total the club runs 5 womens’s teams and 6 men’s teams as well as ladies masters and men’s vets. Trojans also has one of the most successful and largest junior sections in the region catering for U6’s through to U18s. The club runs Back to Hockey sessions for those that used to play hockey and would like to return to the game or those that have never played. Trojans has its own clubhouse onsite which due to be extensively upgraded over the next few seasons, and one high-quality, floodlit artificial grass pitch with plans for a second pitch to be added within the 5 year plan. The club shares some facilities with the Rugby, cricket & squash sections, making a fantastic social environment. We have an overall club sponsor, Elliotts, as well as a hockey section sponsor, Rathbones, who have signed a 3 year deal. We also have an ongoing kit partnership with TK Hockey for 1st team players and coaches. 


Roles & Responsibilities

We are excited to hear candidates’ vision for the role, and how they would shape it and make it their own. The roles is a paid position which includes but is not limited to the following. 

• Lead the ladies performance section through setting an inspiring vision and stretching goals in collaboration with the squad.

• Create a high performing team culture, fostering an environment where players are both challenged and supported to be their best.

• Set behavioural expectations that support the team reach its full potential.

• Delivering engaging training sessions two evenings a week (Tuesday 7 – 8:30pm and Thursday 8:30 - 10pm). Sessions must be relevant, challenging and informed by tactical knowledge and match analysis. This should also be consistent with training across the rest of the Women’s section.

• Attending weekend games to coach and manage the team. Provide leadership, motivation and tactical input that adapts to the circumstances of the game. League games for Ladies 1st XI are played on Saturdays.

• Lead and facilitate the collecting of match day footage, video analysis, and preparation of materials to share with the squad.

• Lead the approach to squad fitness, facilitating the provision of materials and/or sessions.

• Foster an inclusive environment for both adults and juniors, that makes all players feel welcome and enables them to perform at their best. Develop individual players in the performance squad and attract new players. 

• Lead on player recruitment before and throughout the season. 


 Experience

• Experience of high level coaching and or playing, preferably national league standard but other experiences will be considered. 

• Ability to work with other coaches across the Women’s section and to select and develop players with potential to progress.

• Experience of coaching teams with a balance of both adult and junior players.


 Skills & Personal Qualities

• Motivated, positive and proactive with a proven track record.

• Proven ability to create high performing teams and culture.

• Interpret team performance and provide constructive feedback both to the squad and individuals, bringing out the best in every player.

• Collaborative leadership, to support a good working relationship across the section and with captains.

• Ability to facilitate collection of match day footage, and use of video analysis software.

• Committed to supporting the wider club in its goals and objectives.
