A highly anticipated match on a fine sunny day with beautiful conditions was hampered by some dreadful Brookweald batting.
Conditions were ripe for a big score, and Brookweald batted first, hoping to show more of their new-found grit and determination. The opening five overs were positive, and the openers looked in attacking mood. However, as soon as they departed, things descended into a death spiral. Apart from one or two excellent deliveries, every one of the batting side gave their wickets away with what can only be described as terrible cricketing shots. No partnerships and a laissez-faire attitude to the task at hand meant a hard crash to the ground for Brookweald, who were all out for 109.
With not much to get, East Hanningfield could have taken things easy, however, a fiery spell from Alfie Hedges bought respect back with four wickets, and things looked like they could still be recovered. However, it was not to be, and the runs were polished off briskly for a fine win for the visitors.
Lessons learned and egos bruised, it's a long way to go, and the 4Bs need to man up next game.
