Blistering conditions were more akin to sailing than cricket as Burhman welcomed a changed Brookweald line-up.
Brookweald rightly decided to field in windy conditions and proceeded to produce a great display of bowling. Alfie Hedges again showed his class, and Burhman were in trouble at the drinks break with 5 wickets down and 70 on the board.
P. Green and D. Bridge came to the rescue with a gritty and at times lucky partnership. However, make no mistake: luck is made, not given. To take their side from the doldrums to a very respectable 183 was not lucky.
The Brookweald openers started the innings like a storm. A whirlwind 40 off 6 overs seemed to suggest that Burhman were in trouble. However, the old frailties showed, and one wicket led to several in quick succession.
Just when it looked hopeless, Hedges came roaring back with the bat and was ably supported by Denyer. Brookweald were on their way to victory, but Denyer was felled by a ball and rushed off the field. While he was off hurt, the wicket of Hedges proved crucial. Brookweald needed 5 of the last over, but it was not meant to be. Denyer made a heroic return (the cramp had subsided), but Burhman deserved the close win.
