Brookweald 1st XI made a short hop across Weald Park to the home ground of South Weald for the 'Weald Derby.'
Brookweald Skipper Del Baird unusually won the toss and elected to bat. Weald openers Wassim and Harvey looked in control on a spicy pitch, with Dom Pie extracting some sharp bounce early on, until Harvey fell, edging behind off Pie. Top-order wickets fell at regular intervals, bringing Finch and Hedges to the crease with the score at 58 for 4. A fine 5th-wicket partnership of 82 brought Brookweald back into the game. Hedges fell for a fine 52, and then wickets again tumbled at regular intervals, leading to Brookweald posting a respectable total of 179 for South Weald to chase.
South Weald set about the chase with aplomb, with Rob Hull and Sam Harle, and particularly Hull, dispatching the Brookweald attack to all parts of the ground. Hull fell agonizingly 1 run short of what would have been a fine century, but by this time, the match was as good as won. The remaining South Weald batters surpassed the Brookweald total with overs and wickets to spare.
