U16G Cobras Supra League win v Cambridge Juniors

A good all round performance led to a well deserved away win in the Supra League. In spite of the long journey, the team started the match firing on all cylinders with Maddie opening the scoring after just 3 mins. However, this spurred Cambridge on to mount a fight back and they brought the score level at 16 mins. We then scored our best team goal of the season with four clinical passes that started on the left of the opposition 23m, came back through pivot, square to RM and in to the circle to a forward to the right of the goal ending with a pass to Jess near the left post to finish it off. Cambridge had the opportunity to equalise from a PF after a PC hit a foot near the goal line. Blythe scared the PF taker into hitting the post. and we went into half time at 2-1.

Following a good half time discussion, we tidied up some issues and our 2nd half pressing was particularly good. We had a number of chances but their GK was equal to our forwards, however, Maddie finally scored her second to give us a cushion with 12 mins to go.

Caitlin inspired the team throughout with her captaincy, communication, driving runs from deep and incisive through passes to the forwards. Rose was exceptional in her defensive block tackling and stepping to pick the ball ahead of opposition forwards. Our U13 GK, Blythe, did a splendid job stopping some difficult shots. Liv, Katie and Evie C undertook impressive marking to ensure that opposition passing opportunities were limited. The midfield of Ava, Evie H and Amelia worked their socks off in what was an end to end match. Evie H made high paced ball carries down the right but occasionally ran out of pitch space!! Her crosses were exceptional. Ava linked well with Caitlin and also provided cover as required. Amelia was good at finding positions in open space and making solid tackles.

Last but by no means least were the forwards. We are still working on inter-changing but I cannot fault their work rate. Farrah, Maddie, Jess, Katie and Evie C made every effort to link up with each other and the midfield to create scoring opportunities. Our opponent's defence was good and we only won one PC. Well done to Evie on stepping up to make her Cobras debut.

The team, which included four U14s, should be really pleased with their performance and take this forward into their next game.
