Over the past couple of weeks, it was safe to say that the team was on the upward trajectory with two wins in the bag. However, week 3 against out derby rivals Blueharts, proved to be quite the challenge.
From the second the beginning whistle rang out, Blueharts came at our ladies 3’s team aggressively, both metaphorically and literally. They pressed our team and manoeuvred the ball around us, making us work extremely hard. Their style of play led them to score in the first half leaving the ladies on the losing side for the first time this season. Our defensive and midfield players all stepped to defend and defend we did, none better than our goalkeeper and hero of the match Lorna Alcock. Lorna made some phenomenal saves including the extremely high pressure flick save. It was a busy first half to say the least.
However, at half time following the team talk, the ladies changed up a gear and started to fight back and went on the offensive. This new lease of life led to the equalising goal scored by none other than super Francesca Haywood. This makes it 3 for 3 for Fran, scoring in every game so far this season! This goal also meant that the ladies ended the match with a 1-1 draw and another point added on the table.
Although it may not have been our finest hour (well 70 minutes), we came back stronger in the second half and we did not concede! Onwards and upwards for next week.
