Some wins and some losses yesterday, and our Women's 1s team are 7 points ahead at the top-of-the-table!
MEN'S 1 won 3-1 at home to Berkswell & Balsall Common 1
Goals: Dan Rose (3)
MEN'S 2 lost 2-3 away to University of Warwick 3
Goals: Will Feavyour (2)
MEN'S 3 lost 1-15 away to Northampton Saints 4
Goal: Toby Fletcher
The Men's 3s travelled to top-of-the-table Northampton Saints 4 and sadly lost 15-1. This was always going to be a hard game but with five 4th team players stepping-up, and Finn Ingram-Hawkes playing in goal for the first time, we were always going to be up against it.
The team started very well and for the first 15 minutes we held them. Great defensive teamwork from Matt Knipe, Manmeet Singh and Raoul Mercer kept them out, but then Northampton started to find ways through. Toby Fletcher and Dave Littlewood ran the midfield well supported by George Smith and Louis Dickinson. Richard Goswell led the front line supported by Phil Dickinson and James Attenborough and we had a few chances.
Toby popped up at the far post to deflect a short corner shot into the net to make sure we came away with at least a goal. However, a hard collision saw Toby sitting out the last 10 minutes of the game and while down to 10 Saints scored a few more.
MEN'S 4 lost 1-2 at home to Khalsa Leamington 5
Goal: Owen Arthur
Player of the Match: Nathan Brown
Men's 4s took on mid -able Khalsa Leamington in the lunchtime pushback at Stadium RSA. Harborough took the lead with an Owen Arthur chip following a deflected short corner sent into the net by the visitors. Both teams had their fair share of the play in the first half but neither side could really capitalise on the the break. Harborough struggled to find a finish and Khalsa struggled to find a forward on the end of their breaks. Five minutes before the break Khalsa converted after a series of short corners, sneaking the ball in low in the corner. All even at the break.
The second half continued much as the first half had ended. Both sides having possession and attack but unable to capitalise. The visitors went ahead following a deflection off the home keeper’s stick. With fifteen minutes left surely there was time for Harborough equalise, but sadly it was not to be. A solid performance from the M4, but still the first win of the season eludes us. Maybe next week.
