Mens 3rds vs Sunderland 2

Morpeth 3rds Travelled to Sunderland in their opening game of the season.

Morpeth started brightly, with flowing runs from Ross Valentine, cutting through the congested midfield.

Morpeth won a short corner and following a strong shot, Cory Green was on hand to slot home his first goal for the club

The lead was shortlived as Morpeth pressed the self destruct button and allowed too much space to the Sunderland Forwards who punished Morpeth to equalise.

Normal service was quickly resumed as Morpeth were pushing Sunderland back in to their own half and increasing the pressure. Rob Page picked the ball up and found Max Renwick whos deft touch beat the Sunderland keeper and put Morpeth back in the lead.

Morpeth won another Short Corner and Captain sought out Renwick but found Poole instead, undeterred Poole rocketed his shot into the corner of the net.

3-1 to Morpeth at half time

The 2nd half was a different story, Sunderland came out the blocks determined to break up Morpeth's play and fought for every ball. This ended up in a midfield battle with neither team creating many chances.

Morpeth were reduced to 10 men, following a green card and Sunderland used this too their advantage and cut the deficit to one goal.

This was a dangerous period for Morpeth, but a pass found Renwick who's looping touch somehow found the corner of the goal. The sole spectator fainted.

Morpeth played out the final few minutes to claim their first win of the season. Final Score 4-2
