Mens 3rds vs Newcastle 3

Morpeth Welcomed Newcastle to Longhirst, knowing this would be their toughest test of the season. Newcastle were top of the league going into this game and Morpeth sat in second place.

From the first whistle Newcastle pressed and put the pressure on Morpeth and the home side struggled to get out of their own half. This caused Morpeth defensive issue's but the solid Dean Critchley and the impressive Alex Laude held their defensive line. When Newcastle did get through, Marc Stewart was their to sweep up.

Morpeth knew if they could get to half time at 0-0, they could regroup and pose more of a threat to Newcastle. This they did and were happy to have frustrated their opposition.

Captain Yuri tried a new formation of 4-4-1-2 to try and attack Newcastle, unfortunately for Yuri, the umpires didn't agree with Morpeth having 12 on the pitch.

Having frustrated Newcastle, they eventually got their breakthrough via a scrappy goal to concede, Morpeth missing plenty of opportunities to clear and for once the keeper was beaten.

The floodgates didnt open and Newcastle were made to work for their second goal, following a misplaced clearance.

It was now time for Morpeth to chase the game and they through caution to the wind and started to get some joy in the opposition half.

They got a goal back via young Oliver Craik, who scored his first goal for Morpeth and it was a great finish.

Morpeth Pressed for an equaliser which left them exposed and Newcastle tried to counter attack but held on for a well deserved victory.

MOM: Dean Critchley
