1st Team vs Sutton Coldfield 4s

A must-win game against bottom of the table Sutton 4s started late, with not the best pre-match warm up. However, Old Wulfs came out of the blocks hard and got the first goal for minutes in, with some great build up play and Sam on hand for the finish. We continued to dominate, but were a little vulnerable on the counter attack, which was all Sutton had to offer. A fortunate goal for them half way through the first half pushed Old Wulfs into their shells, and some of our bad habits resurfaced. Nevertheless, when we played quick, passing hockey, we looked dangerous and created chances.

We went to the break all square.

Sutton started the second half brightly, but a higher line and more triangles began to pay off of Old Wulfs, and we began to dominate again. A great reaction deflection of a deflection bagged Si the second goal, and Old Wulfs started turning the screws. Several good chances came and went, Daz went of injured and Gareth limped on up top, but we largely stuck to the plan and kept the ball moving. Jake Si and Callum combined well down the right for Callum to get in and round the keeper for a goal on 1st XI debut.

Done and dusted, 3-1 was a good result and an important one for catching the teams ahead. Some great performances around the pitch, and MOTM goes to Jake for his work on the right in attack and defence.

It will be a very different prospect against Bloxwich 2s next week, but a challenge we can rise to meet.
