The Mens 1s welcomed Aylesbury to the Fortress Hithercroft for their opening home game of the season. Wallingford’s pre-match talk focused on coming out of the blocks quickly and this was duly executed straight from the push back with sharp work from Alfred and Fraser resulting in Cam winning a short corner without Aylesbury touching the ball. This lightning start continued as the quarters raced to a 3-0 lead through Cam, Jacob and Mom Alfred, largely set up by Wallingfords patient defence building from the back. Aylesbury came back into the game before half time, pulling one back with a neat reverse finish to give Wallingford some thinking to do at half time.
The next goal was always going to be key as the game descended into an edgy affair. Wallingford restored their 3 goal lead through DoD Cam who then completed his hat-trick with a neat short corner finish. Hugo made it 6-1 with a slotted reverse stick strike after a good turn over high up the pitch by debutant Harry to complete Wallingfords scoring. Aylesbury were beaten but not quite finished, converting a short corner late on for a consolation goal. 6-2 win final score. Wallingford travel to Milton Keynes next week looking to extend their perfect start to the season.
