The Mens 1s welcomed high flying Hawks to the Hithercroft, looking to bounce back after a lack lustre performance on the road at Milton Keynes last week.
Both sides started brightly but the home side couldn’t maintain it for long enough, losing their shape halfway through the first half which allowed Hawks to capitalise and score a couple of goals. Wallingford switched back on and started to create chances of their own with Mom Jacob a constant threat down the right but they lacked a cutting edge up front and failed to convert, going into the break 2-0 down.
More of the same followed in the second half with Wallingford having plenty of ball but struggling to break down a fast and well organised Hawks team. Wallingford conceded another goal through a short corner before applying more pressure onto Hawks which finally paid off with Dan Mayor scoring a consolation goal to finish 3-1.
Not the result we were after but a much improved performance and plenty of positives to take into the mid-season break.
