The men's 5s went down to a 2-1 defeat to Yateley 4 this afternoon in the 4:15pm game at the Hithercroft. A really good game played in a great spirt where hockey was the real winner.
After an even first 10-15 mins, Yateley took the lead from a short corner but the mighty 5s soon pulled it back with a goal from Nick Thompson.
Into the second half and the 5s thought they had taken the lead when a crashing shot from Colin Merryweather from the top of the D flew into the goal - however, it had apparently taken a deflection from Nick's little toe and so the goal was disallowed. Yateley then went back up the other end and nicked a goal on the break.
Try as we might, we were unable to pull it back and the game finished 2-1. Even Yateley agreed (over a beer and some pasta in the bar) that a draw would have been the fairest result - but that is the way it goes.
Great play again from the youngsters in the team - Max, Jake, Casper and Jun all put in awesome performances - but my MoM goes to Chris McCaw who was everywhere on the pitch, constantly breaking up the Yatelely attacks and then driving us forward.
A rest week next week - we return in a couple of weeks with a game against Sonning.
