We are delighted to share an uplifting story from our Bloxwich Hockey Club family. Steve Mallows, the Men's First Team coach, recently completed the Leeds Rob Burrow Marathon, dedicating his efforts to raising funds for fighting MND and also for supporting Bloxwich and Cannock Hockey Clubs.
On 12th May 2024, Steve, alongside Sarah Martin, took on the formidable challenge of running 26.2 miles. Their motivation extended beyond personal triumphs, focusing on raising awareness and funds for two meaningful causes: supporting research and care for those affected by motor neurone disease (MND) and aiding grassroots sports at Bloxwich and Cannock hockey clubs.
Steve’s journey is deeply personal. A lifelong fan of Leeds Rhinos and sharing his birthplace, Pontefract, with Rob Burrow, Steve's commitment to the cause is heartfelt. Their birth year, 1982, and Rob's iconic shirt number, 7, inspired their fundraising campaign. Steve and Sarah have asked supporters to donate £7, symbolizing Rob’s legacy, or any amount they can afford.
Despite facing training limitations due to injuries, Steve and Sarah’s determination never wavered. With Steve balancing his coaching duties and marathon preparation, this showcased his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.
Steve and Sarah's efforts have already raised £1,279, surpassing their initial target of £1,007. We invite everyone to contribute to this noble cause by visiting their JustGiving page:
