A brilliant team performance by the Boys U12 in their SUSSEX COUNTY IN2 CUP Tournament.
Coming RUNNERS UP against the best U12 Boys teams in Sussex:
Having started well in Game 1, our 2nd game against Horsham, eventual winners, could have easily rocked the team’s confidence; but the EG game was a real test, absorbing pressure pretty much the whole game with Teddy “the Cat” Gaff making saves that would have frustrated any side. At the other end, goal chances were in short supply, but a superb tomahawk shot by Leo Boswell into the top corner should have swung the match our way; but was over-ruled, ending the game 0-0.
Not to be overwhelmed, Captain, Freddie “Toddy” Tod rallied the troops into the final 3 games.
Here, the team came together with resilience and panache, with solid defensive work from Henry Payne, Leo Beresford and Hector Briggs, providing the foundation for the midfield to play a well-controlled game through Toddy, Leo “Bozzer” Boswell, “Enzo” Bloomfield and Sam Stone, feeding a goal frenzy from the forwards, Harry “Buzzer” Burrows, and Freddie Crabtree.
As a coach it’s always good to see players persevere with what we try to train each week – without doubt the possession play, playing as a team and attacking as a team were why the results swung our way. Other coaches made some very flattering comments about how well the team switched the ball across the field, covered each other and worked for each other. Long may that continue!
Well played team and well played Teddy Gaff (GK), the squad’s player of the Tournament.
The Regional IN2 Finals that the team progresses onto will be on April 21st.
