Our vibrant Men’s section comprises five adult teams who compete in the England Hockey South East Division and two Junior Boys teams who compete in the Sussex Development league. We aim to offer something for players of all levels, striving to get the right balance between ‘performance’ and ‘participation’. Whatever level played, the club culture is about enjoying hockey and being part of a sociable, friendly and integrated club.
The Men’s 1st team competes in South East Divsion 1 East, whilst our 2nd team are in Martlets (Sussex) 1 – these two teams have a greater focus on performance, with extensive coaching and training each week. The Men’s 3rd, 4th and 5th teams all compete in divisions of the Marlets League in Sussex and are more focussed on club players and maintaining participation (although they always want to win of course!).
We are highly focussed on junior development. Our pathway programme results in a steady stream of highly talented young players entering the men’s section in the lower teams and making their way through the club supported by excellent captains and coaches each year.
"This is such a great club, full of friendly enthusiastic members and a really strong sense of community. Our vision is to find the right balance between competing and socialising whilst also creating a nurturing environment for juniors and new players to develop. Their are development opportunities fro each and every player and a team for everyone.
We are so fortunate to have a fantastic set-up at the Saffrons, with our own pitch with over looking club house and viewing deck. All this makes for a great atmosphere on match days as members stick around to support other teams - it’s quite unique amongst Sussex clubs. It also means we can accommodate a wide range of training sessions throughout the week, from strength & condition and hockey-fit cardio circuits to technical skills workshops for performance players and mixed social hockey.
My role is made easy by a superb team of captains and coaches. The Men’s section are well supported by two excellent head coaches: Kev Johnson who works with the 1s and 2s and Rob Hill who works on player development through the club and coaches the juniorsand Men's 3s, 4s and 5s.
Everyone involved at Eastbourne HC loves hockey and wants as many others as possible to enjoy the sport. Come and join us! There’s something for everyone"
