Mens 1sts vs Durham City 2

Mens 1sts vs Durham City 2

Morpeth welcomed Durham City to Longhirst on Gameweek 2 as they looked to redeem a frustrating opening fixture and put 3 points on the board.

With 15 players, the work rate from Morpeth started at a blistering pace, with the forward line hunting Durham down and forcing errors. The overlapping James finding himself with acres of space to find Hinshaw and Farquhar in the middle but no goals to show for it. Eventually the break through came after 13mins from the first penalty corner. Hinshaw getting some help off a Durham stick to see the drag flick nestle in the back of the goal. 1-0 to the hosts.

Morpeth continued to pile on the pressure, Kendall and Mellor distributing the ball in to areas of space, utilizing both Pearce's well but the team lacked that clinical finish against a very strong Durham Goalkeeper. Half time and a score of 1-0 was deemed frustrating by the hosts as they felt as though they should be out of sight after 35mins.

The same continued in the second half, Jones, Carmichael and Morris linking nicely but the forward line not making the most of countless opportunities. Again Durham's keeper coming to the rescue with some worldie saves.

Finally Morpeth got the breakthrough, a straight strike from Lockey on a penalty corner saw the ball driven into the bottom right corner, 2-0. Final whistle and Morpeth collect their first 3 points of the campaign!

Up the Peth 💚💛
