Mens 3rds vs Carlisle 2

Mens 3rds vs Carlisle 2

A windy fortress Longhirst was the venue for the Gold and green's last game of the season. Win with a 7 goal cushion and not even the vagueries of the league could deny the 3s the league and promotion.

With a mighty roar of 'Peth' the gold and green surged forward, immediately reduced in numbers with 'twenty second Tony' prematurely exiting, his fun for the day done.

Not to be downhearted we forged forward. Fluid and formidable.

A early short corner should have seen an early goal but the opportunity was 'Hinshawed' by captain Gallivan.

Against the run of play Carlisle broke, a calamity of errors at the back saw The goalkeeper nutmegged by a misshit and we were one goal down.

This seemed to galvanise the home team, immediately winning a short, which the ever dependable Renwick senior calmly slotted past the keeper.

5 minutes later with the home team on the asscendecy a second short which Gallivan managed to flick into the net.

Now Morpeth were motoring. Another short scuffed by Bott rebounded to Yuri who didn't fail. 3-1 and Carlisle looked forlorn.

Second half saw us continue the attack, the whole team putting in a great shift. Midfield in control, Ethan on fire, Oakton and Ingham grafting, Edwin and Adam running down everything.

The backs were solid and dependable and Liam making important interventions to keep us in the league hunt.

Another short and another goal from Gallivan, could we do this?

Edwin fired a worldy into the top of the net, goal of the game?

Just two minutes later, Edwin found himself in space, drew the keeper out wide and passed to Old Renwick, who faced the sight of an open goal in front of him and proceeded to miss the target by some distance, the ball last seen heading towards Wooler!

Gallivan converted two more shorts to make it 7-1 and put us on the brink. There ended a Morpeth masterclass and a fine way to finish the season.

Have we done it? Have we won the league and promotion? Unbelievably it rests on the league's committee to decide. It would be a travesty if not.

What a season!

Mom Ethan for and all round superb performance

Dod Max Renwick for missing an open goal as he was in shock that Edwin Renwick actually passed to him!
