Wallingford Open / 10 yrs on the Piste

Ten years on the piste

With preparations well underway Debbie and Thérèse were invited to join BBC radio Oxford for a live broadcast on air to promote our Open Day and chat about the history behind the building of our pistes. We visited BBC Radio Oxford at their studio in Banbury Road, Summertown and were invited onto the Danny Cox show, Danny brings local and National sports news and updates to the area.

The following day began early it was finally here, our long awaited Open Day……

And, wow what a lovely sunny Sunday the 14th of July 2024 / Bastille Day had in store. Almost 60 players / guests gathered together from all over the Thames Valley including many locals joining in the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of our piste. The format of play was a five game fun but competitive Melee, three in the morning before lunch, two after. Play finished around 4 pm where we continued celebrating in the style with a glass of Pimms and a slice of homemade cake … we even sang happy birthday! …….a lovely fun day was had by all, some setting up a picnic spread for lunch on the grassed parking area. A raffle took place after lunch ran by Thérèse with many fantastic donations, raising an amazing sum of £260 including gift aid for Cancer Research. Loren Butt our first President came along in the afternoon for Pimms and cake, Loren then presented the three trophies to the winners.

Friendliest player went to Ian Gordon from Sonning, in third place Eric Hanlon from MTTA, in second place Richard Button from Arborfield and in first place the only player winning all five games Leslie Davis from MTTA.

Très Bien!
