Congratulations Saffron Walden HC on achieving England Hockey ClubMark accreditation.

It is my great pleasure to inform you that you are one of a select number of hockey clubs across England to achieve England Hockey ClubMark accreditation.

Please find attached your certificate of achievement. Achieving England Hockey ClubMark is an important step in ensuring your club operates to a set of core criteria and has good practices in place to ensure that you can deliver quality hockey in a sustainable and vibrant club environment.

As we stride towards a ‘Nation where Hockey Matters’ we wanted to acknowledge and thank you for your commitment and dedication to creating more, better and happier hockey players.

ClubMark - Committee governance

The Management of the Club shall be the responsibility of the Management Committee which shall comprise of the following Officers and who shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting: 

Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Ladies Club Captain, Men’s Club Captain, Social Secretary, Junior Coordinator and Child Protection Officer (the “Officers”). Other individuals may be invited by the Chairman to attend meetings of the Management Committee or any of its sub-committees as appropriate in a non-voting capacity. 

Current Committee consist of the following members - Effective 14th Jul 2021 (AGM) 

Chairman: Martyn Webb

Vice Chairman: Dom Bushnell

Secretary: Ellen Bushnell

Treasurer: Vanessa Hill

Ladies Team Captain Vanessa Hill

Men’s Team Captain: Alistair Cowper

Junior Co-ordinator: Vicky Crowden

Welfare Officer: Lindsay Smith

Fixture Secretary: Tom Smethers

Social Secretary Becca Dale

All members are nominated and elected at the AGM which is held every year Job descriptions are available for all positions within the Committee 

Any vacancies between Annual General Meetings occurring among the Officers, Team Captains or any other official of the Club whose appointment is usually approved at the Annual General Meeting, may be filled by the Management Committee. 

All Officers shall retire annually at the Annual General Meeting but can be eligible for re-election. The quorum for meetings of the Management Committee shall be any three Officers. 

Decisions made by the Management Committee will be by simple majority of those members of the committee present. 

The Members may by General Meeting resolution direct the Management Committee to take, or to refrain from taking, a specified action

The Management Committee shall meet as often as it deems necessary during the year and prior notice must be issued to all Officers stating the date, and and venue of the meeting. Such notice need not be in writing 

Any member of the Management Committee who fails to attend three consecutive meetings of the Management Committee will be deemed to have resigned his or her position and the rules set out in clause 8.2 for re-filling the vacant position shall apply. The Management Committee may at its sole discretion over-rule or suspend the automatic resignation on whatever terms it feels appropriate should it agree the individual circumstances so require. 

The Management Committee may delegate any of its powers to such person or sub-committee as it thinks fit. 

Committee meetings are held once a month during the season and both a month before and after the season finishes

Minutes are taken by the Secretary and dates and times and venue of the next meeting are confirmed – the past 12 months due to COVID 19 restrictions meetings have been held electronically via Zoom / Teams.

Saffron Walden Hockey Club is proud to announce that the club is one of a select number of hockey clubs across England to achieve England Hockey ClubMark accreditation.

The award recognises that the club holds to a set of core criteria and has good practices in place to ensure that quality hockey is played in a sustainable and vibrant club environment.

England Hockey is committed to making England a “Nation where hockey matters” and the ClubMark accreditation is an important part of that process.

A big thank you to all of our members for making our club the club it is, and a quick invitation, for those interested in playing hockey, to join us as we continue to develop the club, its facilities and our shared love of the game.
