Ken Patterson was the last surviving founder member of what is now Team Bath Buccaneers, and – apart from a few seasons at Bath HC – was a member of the club well into his 60’s.
He was a high scoring 1st and Devon County team Centre Forward who for a number of years held our club season goal scoring record, since broken.
After retiring from playing hockey, Ken took up umpiring successfully at West level but was persuaded by TBBHC’s Nick Kendall, when he was Club Captain, to return to manage the Men's 1st Team. It was a successful move as he led the side to promotion to the West Premier Division for the first time. This laid the platform for promotion to the EHL in later seasons.
Ken was an ever present on tours, most notably the dozen or so consecutive visits to the Torday Easter Festival.
A keen sportsman, Ken was also a member of Bath Cricket Club where he was to be come the 1st Team Scorer following retirement from playing and still an active member of Lansdown Golf Club. The image was taken at Lansdown Golf Club on his 90th birthday.
We’d like to join his family in celebrating his life and his strong commitment to sport in Bath.
The funeral service will take place at Haycombe Crematorium on Wednesday 21 December at 13.45 and afterwards at Lansdown Golf Club.
The family ask that no flowers be given and donations should go to Dementia UK - https://www.dementiauk.org/get-involved/donate/.
