Alton L3s had a well deserved victory against Chichester in a highly competitive game.
The home team were quickly put under pressure by a fast moving Chichester attack but Blanchard and Milner were able to deal with a number of breaks on the left. Kercher made a bold run from half way into the opposition circle but Alton were not able to capitalise on this.
Chichester responded with a period of sustained attack, held off by GK Holder and Pack in their first games for the L3s. Eventually, Chichester converted a penalty corner and took the lead. Alton immediately stepped up a gear and took control of the game, building the attack down the right with Wakefield and Anderson passing across the circle and getting a short corner.
Chinchin was able to touch a cross from Anderson in, bringing the scores equal and provoking another attack by Chichester resulting in a run of short corners, the final one of which was converted taking them to a 2-1 lead at half time.
Undeterred, Alton came back in the second half and White was able to score off Ross from a short corner. Once again Chichester took the attack to Alton, camping out in their circle and requiring Holder to deal with a volley of shots. After 10 minutes, Alton sped past the Chichester midfield with Gates and Willatts finding space on either side of the defence and Ross scored from a short corner injection by White. Capitalising on their control, the home team kept up the pressure and White scored again off a Kercher pass.
In a tense final 10 minutes, Chichester scored a third goal but were unable to maintain the pressure resulting in a 4-3 win for Alton. Player of the Match went to Gates for her tenacity and attitude.
