Blueharts Ladies 3s held on to top spot in the East Division 3 South West – but only just – after a battling goalless draw at top-of-the-table rivals Bedford 4s.
A new-look Blueharts team started well and were denied only by a string of excellent saves from the Bedford goalkeeper.
With player-of-the-match Bex Turner to the fore, the Hitchin side were the better side but also had to withstand some lively Bedford breaks.
Nevertheless this was a satisfying point for Blueharts even though they now only lead Shefford and Sandy on goal difference ahead of their game at home to Welwyn Garden City this coming Saturday.
On a frosty day where most Blueharts matches were called off due to frozen pitches, the Men’s 4s beat the cold snap to beat Southgate Adelaide 1s 3-2.
Olly Wright and Daniel Harvey scored for the second week running with Hayden Haywood grabbing the Blueharts first goal – as they move joint second in East Division 3 South West.
Despite the chill, the Ladies 4s actually managed two games in the space of 48 hours – firstly beating Chiltern 2-0 with goals from Alice Winton and Becky Brierton.
Then, after the Hitchin Boys School pitch defrosted, the team was back in action against top-of-the-table Cheshunt and collected a well-deserved point in a 0-0 draw.
The only other team to play was the Ladies 6s – and it was well worthwhile as they beat Welwyn Garden City 3s 2-1.
The 6s found themselves one down before Lindsey Brierton levelled and Danielle Flood turned the tide completely with the winner two minutes from time.
