On a day decimated by frozen pitches, Blueharts Men’s 4s stretched their unbeaten run to nine matches after a 4-2 defeat of Potters Bar 2s – moving them second in East Division 3 South West.
Sam Lacey scored his first goal for the club, with others coming from Noah Tingle, Paul Buckland and Sean Storey.
But a couple of brilliant stops from Darren Farmer at key moments were also critical to the Blueharts’ win as the 4s warmed up in style for next week’s inter-club league game against the Men’s 3s.
Paul Krishman led by example for the Men’s 6s – the skipper on target with a hat-trick as Shefford and Sandy 3s were beaten 3-1.
All three goals were set up by man-of-the-match Jake Sudweeks – in a match where the 6s created a host of chances and should have scored more. Next Saturday the 6s meet the 7s in another mouthwatering inter-club clash!
It was a good day for the Krishman’s as Niamh scored twice in the Ladies 5s 4-2 victory over Bedford, Millie Winton weighing in with the other two goals.
Not such a great day for the Ladies 1s who went down 3-1 to Cambridge City 2s on Saturday despite a Paige Vorster goal and a player-of-the-match display from Annie Nicholls.
On Sunday, the 1s ran into a powerful Bishops Stortford side who ran out 7-1 winners – Emily Jakeman scoring the consolation and Grace Thomson taking the player-of-the-match honours.
The Men’s 1s came away from Saffron Walden with a 4-4 draw, with the prolific Ben Apperly scoring twice and Chris Gadsden and James Sandford one apiece.
Blueharts stay fourth in the East Premier Division and face Old Southendian this Saturday where a win will move the Hitchin side above them into third.
The Men’s 7s continued their 100% record for 2024 with an emphatic 4-0 win over Saffron Waldon 6.
Youngster Harri Flinn scored twice, his first rounding off a fine team move.
Chris Platt and Rob Trotter added the others – Platt scoring after some excellent build-up play from Bobby Bridges while it was a red letter day for Trotter whose composed finish from Daniel Holder’s cross was his first goal of his hockey career.
A youthful Ladies 7s side battled bravely but went down by a single goal to Luton Town – in a game which marked the first-ever senior game for Esme Thompson and first away games for Francesca Woolley and goalkeeper Yasmin Taylor.
Taylor performed brilliantly to keep the 7s in with a chance, while player-of-the-match went to Emilia Kelly for her control and tenacity as Blueharts pressed, only to be denied by the experienced Luton defence.
