Established in 1894 and based at Paddington Recreation Ground in Maida Vale, Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club is London’s most centrally located hockey club.

We are an England Hockey ClubMark, Talent Centre and Talent Academy accredited club with over 1,000 members and provide junior, adult and masters hockey for all abilities and backgrounds.

We field 12 Men's teams and 7 Ladies teams in the England and London Hockey Leagues. The Men's and Ladies 1s play in the National Premier Division and the Men's and Ladies 2s play in the National Conference East Leagues.

The club has three Men's Masters teams in London leagues and a Ladies Masters in the England Hockey Championship (Cup competition).

Regular Back to Hockey sessions are available for adults new to the game or returning from some time off the pitch. The club also runs Mixed Hockey in the Summer.

Members' Charter

Members of HWHC are expected to contribute to the club in the following ways:

• I expect to remain in one team squad but I am prepared to move from one squad to another, according to my playing ability.

• I update my Captain with my availability and don’t drop out of matches without notice.

• I play my games in a competitive but sporting manner, giving umpires no reason to card me.

• I stay after games to socialise with my teammates, the opposition and players from other teams.

• I buy and wear proper club kit at all times when representing the club.

• I volunteer for activities other than playing on match day and recognise that my participation in club affairs is expected to extend outside my team arena.

• I attend social events organised by the club, especially the annual dinner.

• I take care of club property and equipment, including balls, goals and goalkeeping kit.

• I help collect and put away equipment after training and matches.

• I support fundraising activities either directly or by giving my time.

• I understand that HWHC is one club encompassing senior and junior players of all ability levels.

Membership Fee

A club subscription of £380 is charged per season. There is an 'early bird' rate of £365.

Subs can be paid in one sum, or by instalment. Payment must be set up by 31st October each season.

Match Fees

Senior match fees are £12 per game. Junior players in a senior team pay the same match fee for a Men's or Ladies game.

Match fees must be paid on time and any player with more than three games debt outstanding is not eligible for selection.

Fees are reviewed each season and may be updated following the club AGM.

Goalkeepers with their own kit do not pay a membership fee but do pay match fees.

Intraclub matches run at Paddington Recreation Ground during the Summer. These are informal, mixed ability games and everyone is welcome.

HWHC run many Back to Hockey sessions throughout the year.

These sessions are the perfect opportunity to get back into hockey, take up the sport for the first time, or just meet new people!

The sessions are fun, social and informal, so do not worry if you are a little apprehensive, unsure of the rules or worried that you won’t know anyone. HWHC's coaches gently guide participants through a series of fun and interactive sessions, all in a super-friendly and relaxed environment.

The next Back to Hockey sessions are throughout November:

Monday, 6.30pm - 8pm at Paddington Recreation Ground

Club kit

Our club kit supplier is Hawkin Sport.

Protective kit

We recommend that all players wear shin pads and a mouth guard for training sessions and matches. Players under 18 are not allowed to take part without this protection.

If you are looking to get a mouth guard fitted by the dentist, Willow Tree Dental in Swiss Cottage offers a discount to HWHC members.

When does league hockey start?

League fixtures start in September and run until Easter. Senior fixtures are played on Saturdays between 10am and 6pm.

How does selection for teams work?

New joiners will be invited to play for a team that Coaches and team captains feel is the appropriate level. This will then be continually monitored along with existing members of the club. Selection meetings are held regularly to discuss the movement of players across the teams depending on ability, commitment and performance.

Players who have not paid membership or match fees are not eligible for selection for any team.
