GU14 Tigermoths v Richmond Plate Final

Oh what a match! Tough but well done!

We arrived to spectacular pink smoke billowing off the pitch, quite a way to be welcomed - and after a rainy morning the sun came out in force.. Plate final day! Alas, it wasn’t to be for the Tigermoths, Richmond was just one size too big..

No shame in that whatsoever, though, I was very impressed by the maturity with which you all handled a very strong opponent, never gave up, and kept playing good team hockey.

Although it was just too late to turn it around, you did get more and more grip on the match - as the opposition coach said:  you won the last quarter - and scored a great goal (scorer: Emily L, assist Leah S, build up whole team)!

So we’re going home with the silver cup instead of the gold one.. Darn!

Today Richmond were the deserved winners, they looked like a majority of U14s v our majority of U13s, and they were just a little better. They were a bit lucky with their first goals, so the end result actually looks a bit worse than it actually was, you played really well!

It was really tough, they were fast and in our half a lot, but you fought and fought and rallied, finally got them under control and started bossing them, and got a deserved beautiful goal as a result of that.

It was good to see you all smiling afterwards, job well done despite a less desirable score line 😁 The cakes and strawberries and chocolate and haribos may have helped too 😉

More important than the match itself is how you have become a team this season, the progress you have made in skills, in team work, in communication, in determination and spirit. Does anyone remember the first matches do this season? A different world.. Well done Tigermoths!

I can’t and won’t give a particular shout out, as every single one of you put in the work today, hard graft, blood sweat and tears. You deserve that silver trophy you got at the end 😉 🥈🥈🥈🥈

Thank you girls, it was amazing coaching you this season, one more training to go and there will be a BBQ to round things off after the Easter break!
