Mens 1st vs Pelicans 2

Saturday 7th October: it was 24 degrees down at the beach in Sudbury, not a cloud in the sky: Sudbury mens 1st team turned up ready for the challenge ahead of them, the opposition, 3 players from pelicans. Unfortunately the men had to wait a little longer for the rest of the pelicans team to arrive (15 minutes late).

Sudbury were fired up and took the lead through Chrystal in the 2nd minute of the game, Freddie Flowers intercepting the ball and threading a ball through 2 defenders to Chrystal who rounded the keeper to slot home. A couple of minutes went by, the ball found it’s way out to the right where Johnny Amos with a fine crash ball, mistrapped by Andy Card that fell to chrystal, who’s first initial shot cannoned back to him to score on the second time of asking. The third goal was a real crowd pleaser. Freddie firing over an aerial to Chrystal running towards the goal, the keeper charging out towards him, touched the ball past him to Andy Card who slammed home a volley into an open net!

Some great play in the midfield by captain deano, Sam Clark and Man of the match Charlie Apter unleashed another attack which lead to captain Deano finding himself in the “D” and having a slap shot that we think was destined for the side line, but with help from a defender, he helped the ball over the line. Half time, 4-0.

The second half started with a change of formation and lots of fluids taken on board, the defensive line of Dan McGuinness in goal, Zach brazier, Sam Humphreys, Adam bullock and Daniel birch held strong and made sure every attack was dealt with efficiently.. the only scare was a stone, that tackled bullock at the back. Chrystal completed his hat trick before Freddie bagged a brace. The first a fine bullet of a drag flick to the top left corner and then a second that had some lovely movement down the right with Adrian worth and Ed aldsworth who moved the ball to Johnny before finding Freddie with a looping effort over the keeper to make it 7-0. With minutes to go some great play from Matt Hutson shipping the ball left to Adrian, who found Johnny at the top of the “D” finding Chrystal to bag his 4th of the day. The final whistle was blown and the crowd at Sudbury beach erupted, with cheers all round for a simple 8-0 win.

Sudbury travel to UEA next week to keep their unbeaten start in div 2 going!
