On a boiling afternoon, the Sudbury L2s faced off against the Bury St Edmunds L3s. Both teams displayed remarkable skill and determination, showcasing their talent in an evenly matched contest. The incredible commitment to training translated to a strong start to the season, and the abundance of ladies 2s captains couldn't have been prouder!
From the start, it was clear that both sides were eager to secure the win in the first game of the season. Sudbury's defense, anchored by Annie F, Kirsty C, Emily G, and Emma C, held firm against a series of probing attacks from Bury. Emma P was in exceptional form as the goalkeeper, making several fantastic saves that kept Sudbury in the game. Her agility and quick reflexes earned her the well-deserved title of Woman of the Match! Emily G and Georgina S also deserve special mention for their incredible stamina and commitment, as they both played two matches in one day. it was also a day for some light-hearted moments, as Alex D was voted Wally of the Match for her confusion about the duration of a hockey match—perhaps a reminder to us all about the importance of hydration over hangovers from the night before.
Next week promises to be a tasty match against Felixstowe 1 at home. Given the history of these encounters, we expect a top-of-the-table clash that will surely be a spectacle. Kick-off is at 12 PM, followed by the L1s match, and we encourage all our supporters to come out and cheer us on. Overall, it was a great display of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship from both sides, and we look forward to building on this performance in the coming weeks. Bring on the 24/25 season!!
