Feature Focus: match week for coaches and captains

Pick the team straight from the fixture, and take the training register even with no signal.

For coaches, captains and team managers, match week is a run of small jobs: find out who’s available, pick the side, sort the kit and take the register at training. We’ve made each of those shorter. Selection opens from the fixture itself, availability prompts go out when clubs actually send them, kit stays where you put it, and the register now works where the pitch has no signal.

⚽ What it is

A set of changes to the jobs between one fixture and the next: picking the team from the fixture, availability prompts at useful times, kit that stays, and training sessions with a note, a linked venue, an attendance helper and a register that works offline.

👥 Who it’s for

  • Captains and team managers: whoever chases availability and picks the side.
  • Coaches: whoever runs training and takes the register.
  • Members and guardians who help out: an attendance helper needs no role at the club.

🛠️ How to use it

1. Pick the team from the fixture

Open the fixture and, under Manager Tools, tap Selection Manager. It opens on that fixture’s own date with the section already chosen. When you’re done, Back takes you to the fixture. New to it? See Selection Manager in the Help Centre.

2. Send availability prompts when they help

Availability prompts now have options between six weeks and seven days before a fixture, which is when clubs actually send them.

First Prompt options, now with 4, 3 and 2 weeks before.

3. Bring your kit in with your fixtures

When you import fixtures from a spreadsheet, map a column straight to Kit. Kit is now kept when you bulk import, when you duplicate an event and when you create fixtures across several dates. See Import Fixtures.

4. Set up the training session

Add a note to the session for things like “please arrive at 18.45”. Instead of typing the location as plain text, link the session to your club’s venue page, and the team’s session list names the venue properly. A Training event can now be set up for a section, not just a team.

5. Hand the register to a helper

On a training session, open Manager Tools and choose Assign Attendance Helper, next to Mark Attendance. It sends any member or guardian a chat link to that session’s register, with no role needed. If your club has been asking for an “attendance-only role”, this is it.

6. Take the register with no signal

Registers now work offline. Open Mark Attendance and tick names as usual, even with no signal. Every tick is saved on your phone and sends by itself when you’re back online, and ⏱ marks a tick that hasn’t sent yet. You can leave the page or close the app in the meantime.

The register says so the first time you open it.

✅ What’s changed

Picking the team

  • Selection Manager on a fixture’s Manager Tools, with Back returning you to the fixture rather than Manage Club.
  • Guests who say Yes are in the list. An organiser or club-wide manager invited as a guest to a team now appears in Selection Manager when they answer Yes.
  • Players and captains are recognised however their role is capitalised. A Player or Captain role written as, say, “player” now counts for fixture invites and the number attending.
  • Match-day chat after a mixed team. Opening the match-day chat straight after picking an ad-hoc or mixed team no longer leaves it loading forever.

Fixtures and availability

  • New availability prompt timings between six weeks and seven days before a fixture, and Teamo remembers when an admin says no to the availability prompt.
  • Start times fill in once they’re set. A fixture synced from GMS, Play-Cricket or the FA while its start time was TBC now picks up the time once the league sets it.
  • No more midnight kick-offs. When GMS hasn’t set a pushed-back start time, the fixture reads TBC.
  • Fixture sync prompts now go only to people who manage the fixture.
  • Fixtures reach members sooner. A member added to a team sees the team’s fixtures the next time they return to the app.
  • A busy day reads as one block. Days are banded in the events grid.
  • Kit in the import, and kit that stays.

Training

  • A note on each session, and a link to the venue page in place of a typed location.
  • Training events for a section, not just for a team.
  • Assign Attendance Helper sits beside Mark Attendance in Manager Tools.
  • Registers work offline. Ticks are saved on your phone and send by themselves when you’re back online.

Getting started

  • A welcome for every role. Home has four role-specific welcome decks, linked to availability, selection and calendar sync. Each can be hidden, and a hidden deck stays hidden.
