Feature Focus: make your club website yours

Your club website’s look is now yours to set, and you can build pages by copy and paste.

We’ve done a big round of work on the club website editor. Your look settings now carry through to the page, the preview shows your site as it will publish, and venue pages and team page blocks give you more room to tell your club’s story.

🎨 What it is

The “Make it yours” tools in the website editor let you set your club’s look and see it as it will publish:

  • Your look, on the page. Your site-wide look settings now reach the page, with controls for the hero, header, section bar and menu.
  • Click to change. Click any part of the preview and you land on the control behind it.
  • A preview you can trust. The preview renders at a real screen size and tells you which one. It uses the same styling as your published site, and blocks and the page header are drawn in your club’s own look.
  • Your colours and logo. Buttons can use your club’s secondary colour, chosen where you build them, and the header has a “bigger logo, no club name” option.
  • Sponsors where you choose. Sponsors are a placement you decide on.
  • A header that keeps its shape. A long menu collapses into “More”.

👥 Who it’s for

  • Webmasters: whoever builds and looks after the club website.
  • Comms officers: whoever posts the news, keeps team pages up to date and tells people where to go.

🛠️ How to make it yours

1. Set your look

Open the website editor and use the Make it yours tools to choose your hero, header, section bar and menu. Click any part of the preview to jump straight to its control.

The website editor rail: Look and feel, Header and Main Menu, with a note that two long menu items are pushing Guardians and 4 more into the More menu

The editor tells you which menu items are pushing others into “More”, and how to bring them back into the row.

2. Check it at a real screen size

The preview tells you which screen size it’s showing. If a band has nothing in it, it isn’t drawn, and the editor tells you why.

The preview names the screen size it’s showing, with phone, tablet and desktop buttons underneath.

3. Add your content by copy and paste

On any web page, the “+” menu has Paste from clipboard, which picks the right block for what you copied. A range copied from Excel becomes a real table rather than a picture. Paste a picture straight in, with no saving it as a file first, or drop a spreadsheet or picture onto the page. Diagrams such as results tables show at their real size rather than being cropped like a photo. See Paste, Drop & Fit in the Help Centre.

4. Publish every page

When you switch your website to a new look, the Pages list now prompts you to publish everything, so that every page goes live in the new look. A whole-site publish now goes in batches, and each page shows its own progress as it goes.

🏟️ Venue pages and team pages

Venue pages. A venue page can carry a photo from Club Media and your own content, using the same editor as news. Venue pages appear in the link picker and publish with your site, and a venues index can show them as cards. Each has a share card and can include a what3words location. A training session can now link to the venue page instead of having its location typed as plain text.

Edit Location in Manage Club, with the Website page switch on, Getting here notes, a what3words box and Choose a photo

Switch on Website page for a venue, then add how to get there, a what3words address and a photo from your club media.

Team pages. On new-look sites, team pages have a new layout: a wide main column beside a rail of cards. They can carry the same content blocks as a venue or news page, so each team can tell its own story. See Managing team pages.

✅ What’s changed

In the editor

  • Placeholders that help. Empty fields show the shape of an answer, not another club’s answer.
  • Image sizes that match. The suggested sizes now match what the crop tool gives you. Article header images crop to 7:5, and sponsor logos crop to 3:1 on the new look (classic stays 7:5).
  • Tidier editing. A closed block no longer leaves a screen of white space, the edit controls sit where they should, site settings are back to two columns, and “Show full image” can be switched back off.

On your site

  • Images to fall back on. News cards and the home page banner use your club’s default image when they don’t have their own.
  • Your welcome comes second on the home page, on classic sites as well as the new look.
  • A picture on its own publishes. A block holding only an image now goes live.
  • News stays in step. Republishing a news article now republishes the home page as well.
  • Cleaner contact pages. The contact page drops its info column when there’s nothing in it, and a contact card for someone with no first name reads cleanly.
  • A menu that keeps working. The menu updates itself after your club’s web address changes, and the Home link works on iPhone.
