Wallingford Men's 2s fielded a more youthful side this week than has been seen in many a long year at 2s level. With many regulars away it was up to the clubs juniors to take the place of the more seasoned players and they did a fantastic job.
With just 4 players over 30 and the rest an average age of 16 Wallingford took on hawks 4s. In what was a busy first half Wallingford having competed well found themselves 2:0 down at the break despite controlling large passages of play and possession being 50/50.
Wallingford pushed for an equaliser in the second half and MOM Fabian even put his body on the line - and his face. Thus ending his stint on the pitch. We hope it's not to serious and you have a quick recovery.
Wallingford were stubborn and hard working, using the channels and good passing play to create many good opportunities. Unfortunately the third goal from hawks was an absolute screamer and put the game beyond doubt.
Wallingford still pushed for a consolation goal and were caught on the counter once more for Hawks 4th scrappy goal. 4:0 felt an unfair scoreline in what was a pretty even affair. But hawks were more clinical with their finishing and sealed it.
Special mentions to Thomas House for his excellent debut. Harry Brinson for his hard work and excellent running up front.
MOM Fabian. Controlled the middle and worked tirelessly. Took his injury to the face heroically.
DOD Olly P. Forgetting or losing his shirt. then running off with the only spare.
Finally I can't say enough good things about the quality of the work going into the younger players coming through the club. Everyone involved should be immensely proud of how they are coming along as they are a real asset.
