Magpies womens 2s travelled away for Derby Day at Taverham on a chilly Saturday lunchtime. The game marked a Saturday-league return for the previously injured GK George Flatt and promised to be a competitive game following a 2-0 loss for Magpies at the start of the season. Although it was Norwich City who scored first, Magpies quickly found their groove and took control of possession. A well-worked press prevented City from getting back into the game and as a result opportunities began to flow. A strike over the bar and a shot to the post were unlucky for Magpies, but hard work eventually paid off. A strike at goal from top-D from Issy Wolfe rebounded kindly to Amy Vallis, who calmly slotted the ball behind the keeper from wide, levelling the score for half time.
After the break, things quickly ramped back up. A penalty flick award for City could have put Magpies behind again, if it hadn't been for an exceptional save with the head from returnee George Flatt. Spurred on by this, Magpies were straight down to the other end having won a penalty corner, which was beautifully placed from the slip-left position by Kira Wooltorton. 2-1 up. Not letting the foot off the gas, Magpies quickly won another short corner. When a foot on the line was rewarded a short corner rather than a flick, Magpies became even more determined to convert. In the successive reward, the ball hit a foot on the line again - and this time there was no getting away with it. Kira calmly slotted the penalty flick into the left hand net for 3-1. With 5 minutes to go, Magpies continued with relentless pressure on the Norwich City defensive line - epitomised by a corner conceded through some clattering tackles in the centre of the D. A well-worked slip-left variation put across the face of goal by Debbie Francis allowed Jess Lamprell to comfortably deflect the ball in on the right post and wrap the game up once and for all.
Final score Magpies 2s 4-1 Norwich City 1s.
