The women's 3s made the trip to Norwich for a 12:15 start against dragons 2s in increasingly cold and wet weather conditions and without coach (Rob Kinsella) but still determined.
The game started with Magpies having the majority of possession, moving the ball around the pitch well and putting lots of pressure on dragons, linking up well across the middle. The press from the forward line (Beckett-Flatman, Minns, van Haren) and midfield (Kinsella, Buck, Stacey, Walker, Smith, Hipwell) created a largely attacking game for magpies. A few penalty corners were awarded but unfortunately Magpies were unable to score, though there were chances. The defence (Dodds, Taylor & Freeman) were strong at the back, clearing most attacks, with keeper (Abby) making some good saves when necessary.
Unfortunately, after a quick break from the back, dragons scored a goal and magpies’ heads went down. The rain continued to pour, which took a toll on the quality of play and the fluidity that had been developing was lost slightly and the players became a bit panicky on the ball, leading to a few mistakes. Magpies held it together though, and fought until the end, despite the weather, walking away with an unfortunate loss and very wet. There’s room to build and magpies will be ready to go next Saturday!
