The start of the new season saw the womens 5ths travel to Colchester to play their 2nd team on a very hot September Saturday.
With a new group of players and captain the 5ths started the game knowing it would be a tough one, Colchester came out strong and scored an early goal 10 minutes in. Magpies did not give up and with the midfield worked hard running up and down the pitch we managed a few chances but they were unsuccessful. Magpies held off any more goals from Colchester, successfully defending multiple short corners however Colchester scored a couple more goals before half time making it 3-0.
The second half bought some movement of positions to the young magpies side with players trying out different positions, however it was not enough to stop Colchester who scored again before the end of the third quarter. Soon after the 4th quarter started Magpies scored a consolation goal by captain Rachael, however Colchester reacted quickly and scored their final goal of the game ending 7-1. An unfortunate result and tough start to the season for the 5ths but some promising talent amongst the team ready to play magpies 4ths next week.
