Harleston Magpies Women's 2s played at home for only the second time this season against Norwich City 1s. Having been on the road for 3 weekends out of the first 4 league games and picking up points from draws Magpies were looking for a win. The squad was back to 14 after playing with 12 last week, although a change at the back saw Siena return to replace Kira, who was travelling with school.
The game started nervously for Magpies with Norwich City maintaining possession well and creating chances. Mia managed to break through the Norwich City defence against the run of play on 8mins with a strong ball carry down the left into the circle to slot the ball into the goal on the left post.
Norwich City were not deterred and continued to dominate resulting in a chance as their striker got round the back of the magpies defence to score the equaliser.
Magpies knew they needed to improve their shape and focus and begun to do so slowly! They were lucky to go into half term 2-1 up after Jess converted a penalty corner won by Krystal who was barged off the ball by the last Norwich defender.
After half time Magpies took more control of the game. They begun to maintain possession in the attacking third through fluent passing deservedly winning more penalty corners. Jess got her second goal of the game deflecting in a corner strike from Debbie.
The game begun to open up and Laura got on the score sheet with a close range shot. Krystal scored the final 2 goals from open play as she created space with her movement through the city defence.
Final score 6-1 Win for Magpies. The league resumes in two weeks after the half term break with Magpies travelling to St Albans on 2nd November.
