Magpies travelled to St Ives, with new recruits in the mist. DJ, came into the team and had an absolute blinder at right back. He was solid through the whole game, putting in tackle after tackle. His replacement for a 5 min stint at right back, Finn, also making his debut was sensational throughout.
The game got off to a good start with Magpies working the ball well throughout the pitch. The back line were commanding and spraying the ball around. Bedwell playing his audacious lovely first time balls down the left and Dickon’s ball pace throughout the game was exceptional.
Captain Blandy was bossing the game from the back and linking well with his three midfielders, Connor, Spi and Hippy.
Despite dominating possession, Magpies were not offering much goal threat, until a break from Hippy, powering through the midfield found Josh terrorising the defenders with his pace and laying the chance on for Finn to score on his debut. A heroic block on the line prevented this.
Then Hippy and Connor linked well to get the ball to AJ, he skilfully won a short. Taking on the responsibility himself he dispatched the short through the keepers legs.
Then, a class second goal for magpies with a break away goal and some lovely link up play, saw Spi rolling back the years and sprinting forward to first time dive and slap chip over the keeper into the corner.
With Magpies dominating, credit has to be given to St Ives for getting on top for the last 10 mins.
With Robbo making a few good saves he was powerless to prevent St Ives pulling one back.
The second half followed the same pattern, Magpies making a fast pace start dominating and moving the ball.
From a short corner AJ stepped up to convert.
However, with 10 mins left St Ives dominated Magpies all over the park and there never say die attitude saw them pull the game back to 3-3.
Cometh hour cometh man, with a good break AJ slipped the ball onto a defenders foot.
The whistle for full time went, and AJ pushed aside all players to step up and smash the ball into the corner for Magpies to win 4-3.
After the game AJ - player of the match said “he doesn’t experience nerves”.
