Despite a difficult start to the season, the Women's 7ths were determined and optimistic about the game ahead.
The game got off to a smooth start with the ball being passed easily between defence and midfield players. Interceptions from Norwich city were effortlessly resolved by our defensive quad Annie Lancaster, Katie Devereux, Rachael Baynes and Rosie Baynes making critical tackles and clearing the ball out of trouble. Elane Gardner in goal kept her cool, confident with a solid defensive team keeping balls away.
After a long ball out of defence Lily Smith up front moved easily around defensive players, taking the perfect opportunity to make a shot at goal, which Zara Broadley coolly hit in, resulting in the first and only goal of the first half.
After a motivating team talk and some sweet treats for an energy boost, the 7ths team went back out with fighting spirit, which was matched by Norwich City 6. Midfielders Judith Masters, Jenny Meyer and Emma Seggesn covered endless ground, moving the ball up to attackers. A flick was awarded after Lily Smith made another excellent strike at goal. Vanessa Mutimer stepped up to this challenge, took the penalty flick and won the team their second goal.
As the game progressed the Women's 7ths teamwork went from strength to strength, continuing to push for more goals. The attackers worked seamlessly up front. Maisy Woolward skilfully moved the ball into the D, setting up the shot which was finished by Vanessa.
The 3:0 win for women's 7s has given them the boost they need. Every player gave 100%, which was certainly reflected in the score this week.
