Website checklist: help new players and parents find you

A short to-do list, built from your live club website, of the things that help new players and parents find you on Google and see how to join.

🧭 What the Website checklist is

The Website checklist is a short to-do list, built from your live club website, of the things that help new players and parents find you on Google and see how to join.

Teamo reads your published site, spots what is missing or hard to find, and lists it quickest first. Each item has a button that takes you straight to the screen where you fix it. When you have made a change, tick it off and Teamo confirms it on the next check.

  • Who sees it: club admins and website editors (webmasters) of clubs with a Teamo website. Members do not see it.
  • Shared by the club: if one admin ticks an item or hides it, every other admin sees the same list.
  • Nothing changes on its own: the checklist never edits or publishes your site. You make each change yourself, in the usual editors.

📍 Where to find it

Open Website in Teamo. The checklist is the bar across the top of the page.

The bar tells you how many things are left, for example "Website checklist · 4 things to help new members find you", with a row of small marks that fill in as you go.

  • What's this? opens a short explainer, "Why this matters". It shows what an AI assistant tells a parent when your site has no training times, and why each item is worth a few minutes.
  • Show me opens the checklist panel down the right-hand side of the screen. Hide list closes it again.
  • The first time anyone opens it, Teamo reads your site. The bar says "Checking yourclub.com" for about 30 seconds. Carry on working; the results appear in the bar.

When everything is done the bar says "All done. Your site answers what new members ask." You can close it with the cross, and it stays out of the way until something changes.

✅ Working through the list

The panel lists what to do with the quickest first, each with a rough time such as "About 2 minutes". Start with any one.

  1. Open an item to see why it matters and what to write. The Google description items also show "What Google shows today", your club's current listing.
  2. Take me there opens the exact screen where you make the change. The panel stays open beside it, and the item says "You're on this screen" with two or three short tips. In page settings the field to fill is marked "From your checklist", with a preview of "How it will look on Google" underneath.
  3. Save and publish the change. In page settings press Done, then Publish in Page Manager to put it live.
  4. Tick the box beside the item ("I've done this"). It shows "Ticked · we'll confirm it on your next check" and counts towards your progress straight away.

Not relevant to us hides an item for everyone at your club, for example a share picture you don't want. A message offers Undo. Hidden items are listed at the bottom of the panel ("Hidden (1)"); press Show, then Show it again to bring one back.

Keeping the panel out of the way. The pin ("Keep open while I edit") keeps the panel open as you move around the Website section. The arrow shrinks it to a slim tab on the right with the number left; tap the tab to open it again. On a smaller screen, such as a laptop with a narrow window or a tablet, it starts as the tab.

Training times work a little differently: there is no box to tick, because each team ticks itself off. See Training times below.

🔄 Checking your site again

When you have published your changes, press Check my site again at the foot of the panel. It takes about 30 seconds and you can keep working while it reads your homepage, your key pages and your team pages.

A check in progress. Carry on working; the results appear in the bar and the panel.

The result leads with what went well, for example "Nice work: 2 more things are on your site", then shows what each item now says:

  • Green tick, "Confirmed on your site": The change is live. The item moves to Done and stays there for 30 days
    What to do: Nothing
  • Amber, "Not on your live site yet": You ticked it, but the check couldn't see it on your live site. Usually the change is saved but not published
What to do: Press Open Page Manager, publish the page, then Check again
  • Blue dot, "New · found 15 Oct": Something the check hadn't spotted before
What to do: Work through it like any other item

The result: one item ticked but not published yet.

After a check the button rests for 3 minutes ("Ready again in 3 minutes"), so publish everything you've changed before you press it.

If a check can't finish, the panel says so in amber, for example "We couldn't reach your site just now. Try again in a few minutes." Nothing on your list is lost.

🏃 Training times

Training times tick themselves off team by team, the moment you save, because Teamo reads them from its own records instead of waiting for a site check.

"When do you train?" is the first thing a new player or parent asks. The item Add training times to your teams lists each team whose page doesn't show any, with a ring that fills as you go ("2 of 5 teams done"). It takes about a minute a team.

  1. Tap a team's name, or Take me there to start with the first one. Teamo opens that team's Edit sessions window.
  2. Press Add sessions, fill in the day, time and venue, then press Confirm session. Add as many as the team has, then press Done.
  3. Check Training is switched on for the team page, then press Save.

Each team without training times gets a button. Tap one to go straight to its sessions.

The team turns green in the checklist straight away. When every team is done, the item moves to Done with "All 5 teams · confirmed from Teamo".

If a team already has sessions but isn't ticked, its Training switch is off, so the sessions don't show on the site. Turn it on and press Save.

📋 What each item means

Your list shows only the items that apply to your site, out of the nine below, quickest first.

  • Add training times to your teams: "When do you train?" is the first thing a new player or parent asks
Where you fix it: Manage Team Pages › team › training sessions Time: About 1 minute a team
  • Give your homepage a fuller title: The title is the headline in search results. Include your club's full name and sport
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Home › page settings Time: 1 minute
  • Write your Google description: The line Google shows under your club's name. Without one, Google picks a random bit of your page. Say who you are, where you play and how to join
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Home › page settings Time: 2 minutes
  • Shorten your Google description: Google shows about 155 characters, so the end of yours is cut off. Put who you are and how to join first
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Home › page settings Time: 2 minutes
  • Add a share picture: When someone shares your site on WhatsApp or Facebook, a picture makes people tap it. A team photo works well
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Home › page settings Time: 2 minutes
  • Add your ground's address and postcode: "Where do you play?" comes straight after "when do you train?". A postcode lets maps and AI assistants answer it
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Find us, or your venue pages Time: 3 minutes
  • Turn on your contact form: A parent who finds you has no way to get in touch
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Contact page Time: 3 minutes
  • Explain how to join: Your "Join us" button opens a form, but nothing says who can join, what it costs or who to ask
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Home: a short "Join us" section Time: 5 minutes
  • Describe your photos: Search engines and screen readers can't see pictures. A few words on each lets them
Where you fix it: Page Manager › Home: each picture's description Time: 5 minutes

🛡️ What Teamo already looks after

The technical side is already done for every Teamo website, so the checklist only asks for what your club alone can write. Open Teamo looks after 7 things for you at the bottom of the panel to see the list:

  • Pages load fast on a phone
  • Google can find every page
  • A contact form, with club emails kept private to stop spam
  • Training times shown on every team page that has them
  • Google knows you're a sports club, with your fixtures and ground
  • Every link uses your own web address
  • AI assistants are welcome (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity)

📱 On your phone

On a phone the bar becomes a card at the top of the Website page. Show me opens the list as a sheet from the bottom of the screen; tap an item to read about it.

  • Training times work fully on a phone. Tap Take me there: start with the first team. A bar at the bottom says what to do ("U12s: add a training session, then Save.") and, once you've saved, how far you've got, for example "U12s done. 3 of 5 teams now show training times." Next takes you to the next team, and Checklist takes you back.
  • Everything else is changed in Page Manager, which needs a computer. The item says "Page Manager works on a computer: open Teamo in a desktop browser to make this change." You can still tick it on your phone once it's done, or hide it with Not relevant to us.
  • Check my site again sits at the foot of the sheet.

❓ Questions clubs ask

Who can see the checklist?

Club admins and website editors at clubs with a Teamo website. Members, parents and team managers don't see it.

If I tick something, does everyone see it?

Yes. Ticks and hidden items are shared by everyone at your club who can see the checklist.

Does Teamo check my site on its own?

It reads your site the first time the checklist is opened, then whenever someone presses Check my site again. Training times update as soon as a team page is saved.

Does the checklist change my website?

No. It only points you to the right screen. You make and publish every change yourself.

I've made the change but it says "Not on your live site yet".

The change is usually saved but not published. Open Page Manager, publish the page, then check again.

An item doesn't apply to us.

Press Not relevant to us. It's hidden for everyone at your club, and you can bring it back from Hidden at the bottom of the panel.

Why a contact form instead of our email address?

An email address on a website attracts spam. The contact form sends messages to your club without showing the address.

What does "Describe your photos" mean?

Each picture in Page Manager has a description. A few words, such as "Under-10s at the county finals", let search engines and screen readers understand it.

Why does it mention AI assistants like ChatGPT?

More and more parents ask one before they get in touch. It can only answer from what's written on your site.

The check says it couldn't reach our site.

Try again in a few minutes. If it keeps happening, or it says it couldn't match your web address to your club, contact Teamo Support.
