Men's 4s vs Beacon 5

Men's 4s vs Beacon 5

Telford 4ths were at “home" at Wrekin College on Saturday to Beacon 5ths, looking for their first win of the season.

The 4ths had a depleted squad of 13 players with Captain Chris and Tom side-lined by injury.

Before the match Chris stressed the need to pass the ball around the back rather than going forward without enough people to support the attack. Chris also wanted the team to use 3 new short corner routines.

The early part of the match saw umpire John Cook having to deal with a vocal Beacon forward, who failed to heed several warnings and was green carded. Upon his return the same player showed the physical side of his game. One of his wild swings hit David on the hand and for the 3rd week running Telford lost a defender to injury. James was called on to play out of position to fill the central defensive role alongside Pauland Telford were left with just 1 sub for the rest of the game.

Telford btroke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Matt C played a firm pass into the D to Archie. Archie shot from the left of the D and Matt FF made sure the ball crossed the line from close range.

1-0 at half-time with Telford on top.

Chris wasn’t happy with the first 15 minutes when the passing was slow and the ball control wasn’t good.

However Chris thought the last 20 minutes of the first half were excellent and the team deserved to have scored more goals with the number of great chances created.

Telford scored their second goal 7 minutes into the second half when Matt FF passed the ball through the centre of the opposition half to Archie. Archie dummied his way around the advancing keeper and walked the ball into the net to make it 2-0 to Telford.

Telford were in control. The defence was strong, well marshalled by Brad, who pulled off one excellent save as well as kicking any dangers away when needed.

Telford continued to make good goal scoring opportunities, but were only able to score their 3rd with a minute left in the match. John played the ball into the D from the right where ST, playing out of position at centre-forward to give Tom a rest, deflected the ball to Matt FF to strike the ball home for his 2nd goal of the game. ST generously gave the assist to John as he said he hardly touched the ball.

So, the game finished 3-0 to Telford to give the 4ths their first win of the season and their first clean sheet.

The whole team worked very hard for this result. Everybody played well and, although they were tired at the end, this was the best performance of the season so far. Multiplenominations for Man of the Match which went to Paul for his strength in defence and his overall contribution to the team.
