Telford & Wrekin Hockey Clubs very own Chris Nightingale has won Unsung hero of the year at England Hockey’s Annual Awards evening!
After winning the clubs own Jayne Parham award for club person of the year, Chris has added to his trophy cabinet with England Hockey’s Unsung Hero of the Year award for all the work done behind the scenes.
Since joining the club, the former 3rd team captain has played a massive part in the redevelopment of the pitch and facilities, as well as being a regular umpire, webmaster and social media officer. Chris introduced a new electronic payment system into the whole club, easing Captain and treasurer duties. He also installed the smart lighting control with usage monitoring to the clubs LED floodlights, saving the up nearly 50% of their energy bill. When the snow paid a visit earlier in the season, Chris led a team of volunteers down to St George’s over 3 days to clear the pitch, ensuring we were one of the few teams to host games in the country that weekend.
Chris’ latest project is the addition of another cabin to improve pitch-side facilities, with our old one relocated for training equipment storage, whilst wanting to level out the banking on the side of the pitch to create a spectator area. Chris is also the man behind all the marketing on the pitch, with our sponsor banners, and the improved dugouts making the pitch recognisable as the home of Telford and Wrekin Hockey Club.
Massive congratulations to Chris, and thank you for his continued hard work for everything he does for the club!
