It seemed like a long 2 weeks off so it was nice to be back in action this weekend. The main aim for this game was to see an improvement from the last game and a huge improvement is what we got. Unfortunately we lacked a little luck and some chances going in the net.
The game started with us well on top for a good 15 mins, the quality of quick fast passing was great to see and be involved in from the back to the front. Toby and Greg provided great support and passing thorough the midfield of George, myself and Sam T. Daniel Fergus and Sam G up front created some great breaks and link up play. When Ben came on he provided a great wide outlet either progressing the ball forward or recycling it round. Jim and Riz made for a solid partnership at the back and unfortunately the game turned when Macc received a penalty stroke. Will did his best to make the save but a low shot to the corner put Macc 1-0 up.
No heads dropped and we continued on in what was now a rather even game but before the end of the half, a moment of individual skill from on of the Macc players got him in the D and hit a shot to the top corner.
Half time was a strange talk as we had played so well but were 2-0 down. The aim was to get the next goal but as the second half progressed and the rain poured down, it was clear Macc were using the 2 goal lead to their advantage, running balls into corners and just keeping the possession to make us do the work. With tired legs (and in my case bruised legs) and a bit of a loss in the formation, Macc managed to make a break to get a 3rd goal.
The result really did not reflect how evenly matched the game was and how well the team played but there were so many positives and performances from a Wilmslow team still finding its feet after the all thats happened in the early season.
